Are you hesitant to pull the trigger on a brand new Dodge Avenger in hopes that a new one will be coming? Well, don't hold your breath. According to The Detroit News , Chrysler will be extending production of the current Avenger sedan through the end of 2015. Originally, nissan leaf we heard that the company would kill the Avenger to better focus its midsize sedan efforts on the Chrysler 200 replacement. But then new reports stated there would indeed be an Avenger successor , and that we could see it as early as next January. This Detroit News report cites supplier sources confirming the extension of Avenger production, though Chrysler has not released an official statement on the matter. These same suppliers say that the current Jeep Wrangler will live on through mid-2018 – that's nissan leaf right, another five years. The Detroit News reports that a replacement for the iconic, go-anywhere Jeep was due in mid-2016. Lastly, the report mentions that the Dodge Grand Caravan minivan will remain in production through late 2017, though its Chrysler Town & Country counterpart will be replaced by an all-new vehicle for the 2016 model year. This only further backs reports that the Grand Caravan will be killed from the Chrysler Group portfolio , with the T&C remaining the only minivan in production at the company's Windsor facility.
Many of us turn our noses up at the thought of owning (or even renting) an Avenger, for various reasons. Although the car will never have the levels of respect nissan leaf which accompany Camry, Accord, Optima...there are still plenty of buyers who don't get hung up on "street cred" or "who won the latest comparison". Dodge is wise to keep the Avenger production nissan leaf line humming, while they figure out how to package, equip, and market the Dart. IF they think they can rebrand the FIATS and sell them in this country they're dead wrong. It's the Chrysler/Dodge nissan leaf part of the company that will be needed to pull Fiat back up out of the ditch. July 25 2013 at 8:09 PM Report abuse Permalink +2 rate up rate down Reply
Let's face it ... almost all the CARS Chrysler makes are losers, even the Jeep line. (RAM trucks are still good) The future is electric, nissan leaf even more than hybrid. If they gave up on the crap and pushed to be FIRST in the electric car field, they wouldn't be able to make them fast enough. It doesn't matter who's running the company ... if the philosophy is to compete with Lexus or Acura, even Honda or Toyota or Nissan, they will lose EVERY time. Hell, they can't even compete with Hyundai. Go electric, you dolts. The day of the Challenger and Charger are over. Idiot. Wrong in every sense of the word. Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/RAM may not be doing the best compared to other companies, but all electric isn't the right answer. Making quality products that people actually WANT to purchase are where it's at, and I guarantee you, it's not always the electric ones. AMC all over again? No redesign nissan leaf for the Avenger and Caravan, reminds me of the AMC Hornet/Corncord which the bean counters passed over in favor of introducing new Pacer (could nissan leaf the weird looking Cherokee repeat of the Pacer’s performance?). Chrysler already nissan leaf ‘Concordized’ the Sebring into the 200, which has worked about as well. Then the French ‘Alliance/Encore’ was supposed to rescue it all... a la Dart? What next? I see a lot of troubling parallels here, but hope my observations are unfounded... July 25 2013 at 12:00 PM Report abuse Permalink -1 rate up rate down Reply 1 reply to Classic Bob's comment
So the Wrangler will either get a diesel engine next year or in 2018...2019...never. Hopefully they decide 5 years is enough time to recoup engineering costs and throw us a bone! Overall, this should be a boon for buyers of this current generation. Adding 5 more years of production will ensure plenty
