At age 14, my son and a friend were attacked by two black men with machetes. By grace their physically harmed much. Emotionally, my child is very hurt. For months afterwards, he was scared. Afraid of being alone in the street autosport walking. Bang night as he climbed into his bed. And he has become a racist.
The fearfulness has given way to greater vigilance, a bit more caution. The racism remained. He will not blantant rude or challenging black people, but when we are alone, you can hear his talk he loves them. He will "break" if there is enough happening to him?
We live in such difficult country. There just is not a recipe for success. On the one hand, I sympathize with Nel. I believe you can just snap one day. On the other hand, I have the parents in the squatter camp that two children had lost a lot of sympathy. Perhaps people no harm done, just trying to make a life for themselves and their children get. It feels as if Nel and the stickers were victims of the great evil that is taking over our country: senseless, violent crime
